Clarendon County School District Seeks Foster Grandparents to Enrich Students' Lives

Clarendon County, SC – The Foster Grandparent Program is actively recruiting volunteers in Clarendon County to serve as mentors, tutors, and role models for children in need. This rewarding opportunity allows adults 55 and over to remain active in their community and make a significant impact on the lives of young people.

The Foster Grandparent Program, in partnership with AmeriCorps Seniors and Save the Children, is seeking dedicated individuals to serve at Manning Early Childhood Center, Manning Elementary School, Dr. Rose H. Wilder Elementary School, and Walker-Gamble Elementary School. Foster Grandparents provide invaluable support to students, helping them develop essential skills and build confidence.

To be eligible for the program, applicants must be at least 55 years of age, meet certain income guidelines, pass a background check, and commit to serving 20-40 hours per week. In return for their service, Foster Grandparents receive a modest tax-free stipend, paid personal leave, transportation reimbursement, insurance coverage while on duty, and recognition for their contributions.

"Foster Grandparents play a vital role in our community, providing guidance and support to students who need it most," said Dr. Erica Murdaugh, Save the Children Liaison for CCSD. "We encourage anyone who is passionate about helping children succeed to consider becoming a Foster Grandparent."

Interested individuals are encouraged to contact Brenda Jenkins Green, Lead Associate, AmeriCorps Seniors Project Director, at (839) 356-0276 or bgreen@savechildren.org, or Shaquetta Pelzer, Administrator, Program Operations, at (803) 878-2950 or spelzer@savechildren.org, for more information and to apply.
