Happy Holidays from the staff of Dr. Rose H. Wilder Elementary School. Here's a copy of our Eagles Nest newsletter.

Our educators gathered once again this Saturday for our second professional development session focused on the Gradual Release of Responsibility and Explicit Instruction. 🍎💪 We revisited the importance of the “I Do” phase, where teachers clearly model skills and set expectations, and the “We Do” phase, where students practice with guidance and immediate feedback. This session placed a strong emphasis on the “You Do”, ensuring students are truly ready to apply learning independently with confidence and purpose. 🧠📚
Teachers explored how to design meaningful independent practice that aligns to the lesson objective, reflects what was modeled, and provides clear evidence of mastery. We also discussed monitoring student work, providing timely feedback, and using data from the “You Do” to inform next steps in instruction. 📊➡️🎯
We are proud of our staff’s continued commitment to refining instruction , even on a Saturday. Empowering students to work independently is the ultimate goal of effective teaching! 💙🚀

Our Goal Post students had an incredible day exploring history and culture in Charleston, SC! 🚌🌟 We visited the Charleston Visitor Center to view the powerful Briggs vs. Elliott display, learning about the pivotal court case that helped spark change during the Civil Rights Movement. 🕊️📖 Students then explored the International African American Museum, discovering stories of courage, resilience, and the rich contributions of African Americans throughout history. 🌍✊🏾 We are so proud of our scholars for representing our school with respect, curiosity, and a passion for learning! 💙💛

We loved seeing everyone show off their style for our American Education Spirit Week. Thursday's theme was "Dress from Your Favorite Decade! From the 70s to the 2000s." Our school was full of throwback fun! A special shoutout to our amazing Teacher of the Year, who joined in the excitement and represented their favorite decade with style and school spirit! 🎉💛 Her enthusiasm continues to inspire our students and staff every single day.
Thank you students and faculty for helping make our Spirit Week unforgettable!

We want to give a HUGE thank you to all of our students, families, and staff who joined us for Literacy Night! Your energy, participation, and excitement made the event a true success. It was wonderful to see our school community come together to celebrate the joy of reading and learning.
Throughout the night, families explored hands-on literacy activities designed to strengthen reading skills at home. Here are a few key literacy takeaways we hope you enjoyed:
✔️ Reading aloud builds vocabulary, comprehension, and confidence.
✔️ Word games and hands-on stations help children connect letters, sounds, and meaning.
✔️ Daily reading routines, even 10–15 minutes, make a BIG difference in long-term achievement.
Thank you again for your support and dedication to our students’ growth. We look forward to many more opportunities to learn and grow together! ❤️📖

We are writing to inform you that, unfortunately, we will need to cancel our upcoming field trip to Washington, D.C. at this time. Due to a low number of participants, we are unable to meet the minimum requirements needed to move forward with the trip as originally planned. You will receive a full refund from the travel company, Orange Sky.
We know how disappointing this news may be for our students and families. Please know that we are committed to providing meaningful learning experiences, and we are currently exploring the possibility of partnering with another school within our district. If this option becomes available, we will share updated details as soon as possible.
Thank you for your understanding and continued support. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us.
This is to inform you that Rose Wilder Elementary will be dismissing early today. Please note that there will be no after-school program offered this afternoon.
We ask that you make arrangements to pick up your child at the early dismissal time. Thank you for your cooperation and support in ensuring a smooth dismissal process.
Join us for our Family Literacy Night — a night full of fun reading activities, games, and opportunities to grow together as readers.
