Manning High School Teacher Reflects on Transformative Centropa Summer Academy Experience
Tara Dozier Gains Global Insights and Collaborates with International Educators on Holocaust Education
Manning, SC – Tara Dozier, a history teacher at Manning High School, recently completed her participation in the prestigious Centropa Summer Academy, an enriching opportunity focused on Holocaust education and cultural exchange.
Tara, who was selected as one of the U.S. teachers for this program, expressed her gratitude, stating, “I am incredibly thankful for the support from Centropa and sponsors like the South Carolina Council on the Holocaust, which made this opportunity possible. Their investment in Holocaust education is invaluable.”
During her week and a half experience, Tara had the honor of joining over 65 educators from 16 countries, representing South Carolina and the Clarendon County School District as the sole participant from the state. Collaborating with colleagues from Croatia, Greece, Germany, Poland, Israel, and Spain, she participated in workshops, discussions, and site visits at significant historical locations, including Vienna, Prague, and TerezĂn.
“The opportunity to learn from survivor testimonies and engage with historical sites has profoundly deepened my understanding of the Holocaust,” Tara shared. “I feel honored to have represented our community and district in such an important global conversation.”
Throughout the program, Tara was actively documenting her experiences. She noted, “While I haven't taken many pictures myself just yet, we had a professional photographer capturing our journey. Centropa will be sharing updates on their website and Facebook page to showcase our learning and experiences.”
Tara's commitment to education and passion for teaching history exemplify the dedication of Clarendon County School District educators in fostering understanding and awareness of critical historical events.
