Clarendon County School District Celebrates Continued Academic Progress in 2025–2026 State Assessment Results

Elementary and secondary results demonstrate areas of growth and achievement while establishing a clear roadmap for continued improvement during CCSD’s Year of Excellence

MANNING, S.C. — August 2026 — Clarendon County School District (CCSD) is celebrating areas of academic progress reflected in the 2025–2026 state assessment results. Results show encouraging strengths in elementary literacy and science, middle school ELA, and high school English 2, while also identifying mathematics, science, and several secondary content areas as priorities for continued improvement.

“Assessment results provide us with an opportunity to celebrate progress while also examining where we must improve,” said Dr. Shawn Johnson, Superintendent. “During our Year of Excellence, we will strengthen the practices producing results, address areas of need with urgency, and continue building systems that lead to consistent academic excellence for every student.”

Elementary Achievement

At Manning Elementary, ELA performance increased from 48.1% to 50.9% Meets or Exceeds, while Grade 4 science increased from 28.3% to 32.7%. Dr. Rose H. Wilder Elementary increased in ELA from 53.3% to 55.9%, while Walker-Gamble Elementary remained an achievement strength, with 65.7% Meets or Exceeds in ELA and 57.9% in science.

The district will continue building on early literacy, structured reading practices, reading coaches, LETRS-informed professional learning, purposeful writing, and targeted small-group instruction while intensifying efforts in mathematics and science.

“We are encouraged by the ELA growth at Manning Elementary and Dr. Rose H. Wilder and the continued strength demonstrated at Walker-Gamble,” said Dr. Erica Murdaugh, Director of Early Childhood and Elementary Education. “Our focus will remain on strong Tier I instruction, targeted interventions, and using student evidence to ensure every child receives the support needed to succeed.”

Secondary Achievement

At the high school level, English 2 was the strongest End-of-Course subject across all three high schools. East Clarendon Middle/High achieved 76.29% C or higher, Manning High achieved 55.76%, and Scott’s Branch Middle/High achieved 49.05%. East Clarendon also recorded 56.88% C or higher in Algebra 1 and 50% in Biology 1.

Middle school results also showed notable strengths. East Clarendon’s sixth grade achieved 66.7% Meets or Exceeds in ELA, 64% in mathematics, and 65.3% in science. More than half of Manning Junior High students met or exceeded expectations in ELA in grades six through eight, while 43.6% of Scott’s Branch eighth graders met or exceeded expectations in ELA.

“Our secondary results show encouraging outcomes, particularly in literacy, while also making clear where we must intensify our efforts,” said Dr. Tyneshia Eaddy, Director of Secondary Education and Accountability. “We will continue using student evidence, targeted interventions, instructional coaching, and progress monitoring to accelerate achievement across our middle and high schools.”

Moving Forward: A Year of Excellence

CCSD will use the results as a roadmap for continued improvement. During the 2026–2027 Year of Excellence, the district’s focus is clear: strengthen foundations, sustain effective practices, and accelerate every learner.

“We celebrate the progress, but we also know where we must improve,” Johnson added. “We will continue moving forward together with purpose, accountability, and high expectations for every child in Clarendon County.”
