Attendance matters because every day in school is an opportunity to learn, grow, and succeed. When our scholars attend school regularly, they build strong academic habits, stay connected with their peers, and gain the skills they need for future success. Missing just a few days can disrupt learning, lower achievement, and make it harder to catch up. Consistent attendance helps them feel more confident, prepared, and engaged. Families, educators, and communities all play a role in encouraging good attendance habits. Let’s work together to ensure every scholar shows up, on time, every day because every day counts, and every scholar matters.

📅✨ September is Attendance Awareness Month!
In Clarendon County, we know that Every Day Counts. Missing just a few days can add up to weeks of lost learning. Let’s work together to make sure our students are in school, on time, and ready to succeed! 🌟
Join us as we celebrate the importance of showing up each day, on time, and ready to learn the week of September 8th. 💪📚 Let’s make attendance fun while reminding everyone that Every Day Counts in CCSD! 🌟

🧪 Fridays are for Fun and Family 🧪 Engagement! If your child had Ms. Caryn Britt’s Stem Lab for activity this week they got to participate in an exciting Lava Lamp Experiment. Our scholars made colorful Lava Lamps using oil, water, food coloring, and Alka-Seltzer tablets! The Alka-Seltzer tablets created bubbles of gas which lifted the colored water blobs through the oil, making them rise and fall. Because oil and water don’t mix, the bubbles made the water lighter than the oil.
This would be another fun and exciting activity to do at home or at your next family gathering! 🔬

🧪 A Penny for Your Thoughts! 💧
Mrs. Harrelson and Mrs. Russell kicked off the school year with an exciting science lab for their 5th grade classes! In their first experiment, our budding scientists explored the question: “How many drops of water can a penny hold?”
Through careful observation and experimentation, our scholars discovered just how much water a penny can hold before surface tension gives way and the drops spill over. This engaging activity introduced key scientific concepts such as cohesion, surface tension, and the scientific method, all while encouraging curiosity, prediction, and collaboration.
To extend learning beyond the classroom, families are encouraged to try this fun experiment at home! It’s a simple way to promote family engagement and spark conversations about science in everyday life. Just grab a penny, a dropper or straw, and some water — then see how many drops your penny can hold. Share your findings and observations together, and keep the spirit of discovery alive!
What a great way to dive into science—one drop at a time!
