Third grade students are expected to fluently recall multiplication facts. Please ensure your third grader is practicing facts each night. Third graders will focus only on the 9 times tables this week and next week. This is a change from what was originally planned. Students will continue taking practice 3 minute/30 problem timed tests. Next week’s assessment will be graded (9’s only). Once fluent, students will be able to complete the assessment quickly and in less than a minute. Learning facts now makes other more difficult skills easier. WGE fourth graders are also reviewing multiplication facts and completing timed assessments. Fourth graders are currently working to master the 7 times tables.

Students will complete first quarter common assessments between Tuesday, September 15th and Thursday, September 17th. It is very important for students to be at school during testing.

Please refer to the following flyer for Gifted and Talented program screening information. Clarendon County School District is beginning the process of screening students for possible placement in the Gifted and Talented Academic PRIDE Program. All 2nd grade students will complete CogAT and IOWA Assessments between Monday, October 12th and Friday, October 16th. Students in grades 3 through 5 who are either new to the district or have not been identified through the standard evaluation process may be recommended for screening. The deadline for referrals is September 30, 2026.

Please join Walker Gamble Elementary for Grandfriends Day from 7:15–7:55 AM! Prekindergarten, kindergarten, first grade, and their older siblings will celebrate on Thursday, September 10th, while second through fifth grade students will celebrate on Friday, September 11th. Grandfriends are invited to bring their grandchildren to school, walk them to class, and enjoy several star-studded activities together. We look forward to celebrating our wonderful grandfriends at WGE!

Please plan to join WGE faculty and staff for STEAM Night on Thursday, September 24th at 5:30 PM.

WGE is looking for volunteers to distribute candy during our Fall Festival Trunk or Treat. Fall Festival is scheduled during school hours on Friday, October 30th. Please refer to the flyer for additional information.

The Manning Lions Club will offer free student vision screenings at WGE on September 21st. Ms. Kelbe Miles, WGE’s school nurse, will be present during all student screenings. Students cannot participate in the screening without parent permission. Please be on the lookout for a permission form which should be sent home this week.
