Today our Accounting 1 students took learning outside and turned the sidewalk into their classroom! Using sidewalk chalk, they reviewed key concepts for their upcoming Unit 2 test—from the accounting equation to how transactions impact accounts, owner’s equity, and financial statements.
It was great to see them working together, breaking down concepts like balance sheets and income statements in a creative, hands-on way. Sometimes the best learning happens when we step outside the classroom walls!
Proud of their hard work and preparation—ready to see them succeed on this test! 📊✏️

Dear Parents,
The email below was sent to parents last week. If you have not already done so, please take this 5-minute survey before the end of day tomorrow, March 13, 2026. The data will help ECMHS as we continue school improvement.
The survey link is https://survey.5-essentials.org/hmh/survey/parent/
Dear Parent,
Teachers and students across the district will have an opportunity to participate in the 5Essentials Survey. This survey is designed to generate a detailed picture of the inner workings of your child’s school. As a parent, you also have the opportunity to share your thoughts on the important elements of school effectiveness in a survey about your child’s school.
The 5Essentials Survey will be administered online by UChicago Impact. The 5Essentials gathers data related to five indicators that can predict important student outcomes, including improved attendance and larger test score gains. These five indicators that affect and predict school success are:
Effective Leaders
Collaborative Teachers
Involved Families
Supportive Environments
Ambitious Instruction
Prior research has shown that schools that were strong on at least three of these “5Essential” indicators were 10 times more likely to improve student learning gains in math and reading than those that were weak on three or more Essentials.
All teachers and students in grades 4-12 will be responding to this survey. 5Essentials Reports will be generated for schools if their teachers and/or students meet the response rate threshold of 50 percent. These reports will be sent to schools and districts in April 2026.
Additionally, our district has chosen to provide UChicago Impact’s Parent Survey. If at least 20 percent of East Clarendon Middle High School parents complete this survey, a parent survey report will also be generated.
Your participation in the parent survey will help us understand the conditions at your child’s school and guide improvement. Your identity and survey responses will be kept completely confidential and will never be connected to you or your child.
The Parent Survey is open and will close on March 13th, 2026. To take the survey please visit
https://survey.5-essentials.org/hmh/survey/parent/.
Sincerely,
Laura B. Fleming, Principal

Today our students had an incredible opportunity to learn from a local business leader!
Thank you to Chick-fil-A Owner/Operator Will Lane from Manning, SC for speaking with Mrs. Ard, Mrs. Coleman, Mrs. Hunt, and Mr. Spencer’s 3rd and 4th period classes about Entrepreneurship, Business Data, and Economics.
Mr. Lane shared valuable insight into what it takes to run a successful business, how data drives decision-making, and the importance of strong leadership and work ethic. Our students gained real-world knowledge that connects directly to what they are learning in the classroom.
We are grateful for community leaders who are willing to invest their time and experience into the next generation. Community engagement and knowledge being poured into our students makes a lasting impact!
