We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to our amazing Student Council members and sponsor, Mrs. Jennifer Hunt, for leading today’s Black History Program - The Torch Is Yours.
Your leadership, dedication, and thoughtful presentation made the program both meaningful and inspiring for our entire school community. We are so proud of the hard work and commitment you showed in honoring Black History and celebrating its impact.
Thank you for making today such a powerful and memorable experience! 👏🏾✨

Coach Cornelius’ Weightlifting Class is kicking off next week, and we’re raising the bar! 💪
This year, our student-athletes will earn performance-based t-shirts based on their results in bench press, power cleans, and squats. There are 4 different levels to achieve — with the highest tier earning a 🔥 black t-shirt. We chose four non-EC colors so our athletes can stand out and represent their hard work with pride!
A huge THANK YOU to our Booster Club for covering this expense and investing in a program that rewards dedication and motivates our athletes to chase bigger goals.
I selected four seniors who truly represent what we do in the weight room and how it translates to athletic success. Between them, they’ve competed in over 40 combined seasons during their high school careers — and each has competed in a State Championship in at least one sport.
From left to right:
• Takoda Cornelius – Power Index over 6.0
• Xavier Smith – Combined for over 1,000 pounds across his lifts
• Tryston Underwood – Power Index of 5.8
• Cayli Harcrow – Power Index over 4.0
(Power Index = body weight divided into max combined lifts. A PI of 4.0 means an athlete is lifting 4x their body weight across the three main lifts.)
Proud of these seniors for setting the standard and leading the way. The work we put in here carries over to everything we do. Let’s get to it! 💪🔥

Dear East Clarendon Middle High Students and Parents,
At East Clarendon Middle and High School, our primary focus is student learning, academic excellence, and the overall well-being of every student we serve. To maintain a safe, productive, and distraction-free learning environment, we are reinforcing expectations regarding student use of personal electronic devices during the school day.
As a reminder, recent South Carolina legislation prohibits student access to personal electronic devices during the instructional day. This includes, but is not limited to, cell phones, AirPods, smart watches, smart glasses, cordless headphones, and similar devices. Schools are required to enforce this law in order to ensure that instructional time remains focused and protected.
Research and classroom experience consistently show that personal electronic devices are a significant distraction to academic performance. Notifications, messaging, social media access, and media consumption interrupt concentration, reduce engagement, and diminish the quality of learning. Unfortunately, cell phone use has also contributed to cases of academic dishonesty. Additionally, constant device access can negatively impact students’ social-emotional well-being by increasing anxiety, social comparison, and peer conflict. Our goal is to create an environment where students can fully engage in instruction, collaborate with peers face-to-face, and build healthy interpersonal skills.
Despite ongoing policy enforcement, some students continue to refuse to discontinue use of cell phones and related devices during the school day (8:00 am - 3:15 pm). Last school year, the district purchased lock boxes for every teacher. Students are expected to turn in their phones at the beginning of the school day and pick them up at dismissal. This procedure supports compliance with state law and ensures consistency across classrooms.
We are asking for your partnership. Parents, we respectfully request that you refrain from texting or attempting to contact your child via cell phone during the school day. If you need to communicate with your child, please email them through their school email account or call the school office, and we will ensure that your message is delivered.
Please carefully review the attached district Electronic Device Policy. It outlines expectations and consequences in detail. Additionally, it is important to note that taking and/or distributing video, photographs, or audio recordings during the school day is considered a more serious disciplinary infraction. As outlined in the Student Discipline Code, such actions result in a three-day suspension. Refusal to give up a phone / device when a faculty member asks for it is also a more serious infraction.
At East Clarendon, we are committed to enforcing state law and maintaining a learning environment centered on teaching, learning, and preparing students for success beyond graduation. We appreciate your cooperation and support as we work together to uphold these expectations.
Parents, thank you for your continued partnership in supporting our students. Students, we know that you can reach this expectation.
Sincerely,
Laura Fleming

🌍🔐 Escape Room Challenge in World Geography! 🔐🌍
Coach Carter’s 7th Grade World Geography class is putting their critical thinking skills to the test! 🧠✨
This week, students are diving into an interactive “Escape Room” activity while analyzing informational text about illegal poaching in Africa. Working collaboratively, they’re solving clues, interpreting real-world data, and uncovering the impact poaching has on wildlife, ecosystems, and communities.
From understanding why animals like elephants and rhinos are targeted to exploring conservation efforts across the continent, our students are becoming informed global citizens—one puzzle at a time! 🐘🦏🌿
We love seeing their teamwork, problem-solving, and engagement come to life in such a meaningful way. Way to go, 7th grade! 👏🌎

To celebrate Black History Month, Mr. Jody’s 7th and 8th grade classes showed off their art skills creating an informative page on a Black Scientist or Inventor.

🌍🧩 6th Grade Science in Action! 🧩🌍
Mrs. Wilder’s science class.
Today, our 6th graders explored plate tectonics and continental drift by completing a hands-on Pangaea puzzle. Students worked together to piece the continents back into the ancient supercontinent, discovering how Earth’s landmasses once fit together like a giant jigsaw puzzle!

Our 7th grade Math 180 students put probability to the test today! 🪙
They explored theoretical vs. experimental probability by flipping coins, collecting data, and comparing their results to the expected 50/50 outcome.
Hands-on math = deeper understanding! 📈✨
